Historic Downtown Annapolis is a picturesque, waterfront city where you can enjoy a day of shopping, dining in restaurants, and enjoying the waterfront. The downtown is quite walkable, and has even been ranked as one of America’s most walkable towns.

The best place to start your walk is Main Street, which runs right beside State Circle and the historic Maryland State House. Various parking garages are located throughout the downtown area and some on-street parking is also available.

Along Main Street, be sure to stop at Kilwin’s, a store selling premium chocolate, ice cream, and fudge. Main Street also includes clothing stores, pet boutiques, and even a comic book store.

Main Street also features some delicious restaurants like Chick & Ruth’s Delly, an institution in Annapolis for more than 50 years. There’s fine dining, as well as many cute ice cream shops.

Wondering off Main Street with allow you to find hidden gems like Old Fox Books on Maryland Avenue. The front of the building is a bookstore, while there is a coffee bar in the back called Brown Mustache Coffee.

After grabbing a drink, head outside to discover their cute courtyard with tables and a book playhouse for kids.

Downtown is also full of historic buildings and museums. When we visited, Hogshead House happened to be open for a tour. Historic walking tours of the city can be be scheduled in advance.

If you’re a fan of crepes, Sofie’s Crepes is located close to the waterfront and features of variety of sweet and savory crepes.
