The Curious Little Playhouse opened in 2019 in downtown York. The playhouse is located along Market Street, close to Continental Square. It is an indoor play place dedicated to imaginative play.

Play Areas

Each play area in The Curious Little Playhouse is equipped to meet the needs of your child’s imaginary play. Details in each area may include costumes to suit the pretend play subject, as well as special lighting and adorable decor.

Castle

The Playhouse has several play areas which cater to different themes. At the front of the Playhouse is the castle. It’s a structure that the kids can play inside, complete with a “horse” and other pretend play accessories.

Restaurant

Continuing further into the playhouse is the restaurant. It’s designated by the large hamburger situated above the play restaurant. There is a kitchen area, lemonade stand, and food cart.

The restaurant area is decorated with menus and food advertisements on the wall. Details include lots of “ingredients”, pots and pans, and even aprons. My daughter’s favorite part was the lemonade stand complete with a cash register.

School House

Toward the back of the Playhouse is the school area. There’s schoolhouse old-style desks, a chalk board, and puppet show area where the kids can entertain their students.

Grocery Store

Always a hit with the kids, the grocery store is a popular place at the playhouse. There are several check out aisles for the children to make their purchases. The wall is lined with shelves of food, and of course there are grocery carts for them to collect everything they’d like to buy.

This area works best when a few children are playing together and can assume all of the roles in a grocery store. It’s fun to watch them assist each other with their purchases, and even restock the shelves when they are finished playing.

Birthday Parties

The Curious Little Playhouse also offers birthday parties for kids. The back of the playhouse has the birthday party set up. It is transformed for each party depending on the wishes of the birthday child. There are several different themes that the playhouse offers. Parties can also request a miniature pony, or “unicorn” to be a guest at the party to give children pony rides on the sidewalk outside.

Unicorn Photo Shoots

Two miniature ponies are also available for photo shoots in Cherry Lane, which is nearby the playhouse. Cherry Lane is a gathering place close to the near Central Market House, but also not far from the playhouse. It’s brick pavers, trees, and lighting make it a great place for photo shots in the city.

Special Events

The Curious Little Playhouse holds several types of special events throughout the year. Events include parents night out, when kids can be dropped off and play while their parents enjoy dinner at a restaurant in the city. Other special events are tea parties with fairies, and more events are coming soon. Check The Curious Playhouse’s Facebook page for details.
