The Lakes at Darlington can close unexpectedly. Be sure to call ahead and watch their Facebook page for updates.
Darlington County Park is home to The Lakes at Darlington. It is located at 600 Darlington Ave in Mahwah which is in northern New Jersey. This park is a total of 127 acres and features swimming lakes in the summer. There’s also a Wibit obstacle course on one of the lakes, called the Splash Zone.
The entry fees to the park varies on whether it’s a weekday or weekend, and it also depends on whether you are a Bergen County, New Jersey resident or from outside the county. The entry fees can be found on their website and range for $6 for children to $15 for adults (subject to change). They collect the fees at the entrance of the park while you are still in your car.
Upon arriving, the first area is the swimming lake and picnic area. There is a sandy lake beach with a tree-lined picnicking area behind it. The lake is quite large, but on weekends and holidays the park can fill to capacity.
The Splash Zone at Darlington
Following the driveway farther into the park, there is a smaller lake that is only for the Wibit course. This area is called the Splash Zone. This lake is only for those participating in the Splash Zone. Splash Zone sessions have designated times. These sessions are an extra fee beyond the entrance fee. Splash Zone sessions may be reserved online on weekdays (subject to change), and they do SELL OUT.
The regular Splash Zone height requirement is 48″ or taller and life jackets must be worn at all times. There is also a kiddie splash zone for those between 39″ and 48″ tall and adults may help in this area if they also pay to participate. Sessions can be only for certain heights, so be sure to check their schedule. Always double check height requirements on the Darlington County Park’s website before venturing out and remember the height is determined barefoot.
The Splash Zone sessions are 50 minutes, with 10 extra minutes to get fitted in a life jacket and have safety rules explained. There are lifeguards available throughout the Splash Zone and along the beach.
Those people not participating in the Splash Zone may sit on the beach, but not enter the water. There is a shower located along the restroom and changing room buildings, so those not participating can cool down with the shower. There’s also a shaded pavilion with a few picnic tables.
