Muddy Run Park is located at 172 Bethesda Church Road in Holtwood, Pennsylvania. Holtwood is close to the Maryland border, on the east side of the Susquehanna River, south of Lancaster.
Muddy Run Park is home to a campground, observatory, seasonal splash pad, pavilions and playgrounds. Day visitors can enter the park and use the splash pad at no charge.
To visit the splash pad and playgrounds, proceed through the park entrance and take the road to the right. The first parking lot is above the splash pad and a short walk across grass to the pad.
If you continue along the road and make a left, there’s a smaller parking lot below the splash pad. This parking lot is better for accessibility, as there’s a paved path to the splash pad.
There are many spray and splash elements, and a dump bucket is located on one end of the splash pad. It is fairly easy to avoid the water dump bucket, if small children do not want to be drenched.
There is a low concrete wall surrounding a portion of the splash pad. It makes a great place to sit and watch your kids. Keep in mind, there isn’t any shade at the splash pad, but there are many shade trees in the grassy area.
Surrounding the splash pad is open grass, dotted with trees and picnic tables. Most of the picnic tables are under the shade trees. Many people bring coolers and picnic by the splash pad.
There’s also a picnic pavilion located a short distance from the splash pad. Restrooms are available in this area, as well.
Up the hill from the splash pad are a set of swings. There’s also a small playground. Down from the splash pad by the reservoir, there’s a larger playground.
