Berkeley Springs State Park is located within the town of Berkeley Springs at 2 South Washington Street. It is famous for its mineral spa, but it is also a great stop for families to view a part of history and cool off in the springs.
This state park is a bit unique, as it is located along a main road in town. The park includes a pool with concession stand in the summer, as well as some refreshing springs for wading and enjoying the clear water.
The swimming pool is long, but rather small overall. The snack stand is available at the front entrance. There are also restrooms in a small building across from the pool.
The state park is a great place for picnicking and wading in the water. At most places the water is only about ankle deep. There are a few places where it gets a bit deeper. One particular area in one of the “ponds” is much deeper at a few feet.
The area is historic, as George Washington visited the springs regularly. This allowed the springs to gain popularity and become a destination spa. Today, there’s still an operating spa on the property. The Old Roman and Main bathhouses offer massages, saunas, baths, and showers.
The Country Inn is located beside the park. It includes a restaurant and overnight accommodations.
When visiting the state park, be sure to check out the adorable historic town that surrounds the park. Close to the park is a coffee shop and antique mall, as well as restaurants.
We happened to visit a cool little pizza shop down the road a bit, called Mythical Pizza. This kid-friendly pizza shop has a station to paint a rock, a couple of video games, and some interesting soda choices. This is in addition to their pizza offerings and fun décor.
