The Wild Center is located at 45 Museum Drive in Tupper Lake, New York. Tupper Lake is close to Lake Placid and Saranac Lake. The Wild Center is an interactive natural history center, with both inside and outside exhibits and activities. From climbing in a spider net to learning about climate science, The Wild Center has so much to offer.
Tickets can be purchased online or when you enter the parking lot. As usual, it is best to purchase online in advance, plus there is a small discount for purchasing online.
The outdoor portion of The Wild Center features the Wild Walk. The entrance to the Wild Walk is located on the far side of the parking lot from the main building. It includes bridges and pathways that take you into the trees.
Within the Wild Walk is a suspended spider web made out of rope, a life-size board game, and many other experiences, including walking into a “tree”.
Outside there is also art pieces, such as the Clothesline, the current exhibit which showcases the work of the community. You can can play in the Pines Play area with natural play structures or visit Stickwork, a large-scale outdoor art sculpture.
For a serene walk through the forest, check out Forest Music. It’s a short walk through the woods, immersing you in nature and music.
Indoor Exhibits
Inside The Wild Center there are many interactive learning activities for kids. There are several animals as well. Animals such as otters, turtles, porcupines, and more. The inside offers exhibits such as the Flammer Theater, Planet Adirondack, and Climate Science.
There is also a VR machine that is called Birdly. It is a flying simulator, where you can feel like a bird as you fly through different maps with a bird point of view. Birdly has a charge in addition to the admission to the Wild Center, and there is a height requirement.
Inside the museum there is also have a gift shop and cafeteria. The cafeteria features soups, soft pretzels, cookies, sandwiches, and more. Outside and inside seating is available.
