Covered Bridge Park is located along Wehr Mill Road in South Whitehall Township, which is northwest of the city of Allentown, Pennsylvania. The park is situated between two historic covered bridges that span the Jordan creek. The park is home to many ball fields, soccer fields, handball courts, a disc golf course, and volleyball court.
Covered Bridge Playground
Recently, the park added a new major playground. The playground is located close to the Wehr covered bridge near the center of the park. After crossing the covered bridge, there is parking on your right. It looks like another parking lot closer to the playground will be opening soon. The entrance to this parking lot will be on your left.
There are two areas of the playground, one for toddlers / preschoolers and a larger section for older children. The toddler playground includes a small play structure with slides. There’s also logs to climb on, as well as a frog, butterfly, and turtle.
Beside the toddler playground is the area for older children. There’s a set of swings, and then the large play structure. This structure has numerous slides and two major bridges span between the two towers of the structure. Along the perimeter of the playground there are benches. This playground is not fenced, but it is set back quite far from the parking lot. When we visited the park in June 2021, the new parking lot by the playground was not complete. We took a short walk from a parking lot across the road to reach the playground.
The large playground also includes a few spinning play structures, as well as a really long zip line. The zip line was a major hit with the kids at the playground. There was usually a few kids waiting to use it.
In front of the playground is a lot of open space with grass. Several picnic tables are available in this area near the playground. If you’d like a more scenic picnic, there are also picnic tables along the Jordan Creek by the covered bridge.
The park also included paved (stroller-friendly) walking paths. Close to the playground, it looked like there is a restroom building under construction. Until it opens, there are a couple of port-a-potties around the park.
