Lubber Run Park is located in Arlington, Virginia. It’s close to Ballston Quarter and North Glebe Road. The park is known for its community center and large, unique playground.
In addition to the playground, the park includes a paved and wooded trail, community center, basketball and pickleball courts. The park is an interesting mix of wooded walking trails and modern playground.
The park’s address is listed as 200 N Columbus Street. This address will lead to a small parking lot near N Columbus St and 2nd St N. At this location, the first thing you’ll see is a small stream and an amphitheater. This is confusing if you are a first time visitor and looking for the large playground.
If only visiting the playground, and not the walking trails, it may be better to go to the Lubber Run Community Center address, which is 300 N Park Dr.
The forested area of Lubber Run Park, which is behind the playground and along North Columbus Street, features a picnic shelter with charcoal grills.
Lubber Run Playground
To get to the playground from the N Columbus Street parking lot, take the walking trail to your right when facing the amphitheater. It’s a short walk to the playground, but it may be a challenge for younger children.
The path will be approximately a quarter of a mile and then there will be a long set of steps that goes to the playground.
For easier access to the playground, closer parking is along North Park Drive or along 3rd Street North. These streets border the playground.
This playground is unique, as it has a natural log climbing area. This climbing structure is fairly big, but low to the ground. This makes it a bit easier for children to be able to climb without getting too far from the ground.
It’s possible to miss the really long hill slides tucked into the far corner of this playground unless you come from the N Columbus parking lot and take the trail to the playground.
Be sure to check out these slides, as they are quite long. There’s even a rock climbing slope to take kids back to the top of the slides!
Another favorite feature of this park is the playhouses. These houses are for toddlers, as they are quite small, but they are adorable!
There’s also a pretty large sand play area at this playground.
