Cowans Gap State Park is a 1,085-acre state park located in Fort Loudon, Pennsylvania. Fort Loudon is between Chambersburg and Breezewood, located not far from the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
The park is situated in a valley in Fulton County, with a 42-acre lake, campground, cabins, and hiking trails. There is no fee to enter this park, though campsite reservations do have a fee.
The lake includes a swimming beach in the summer, with a bathhouse and concession stand.
When the concession stand is open in the summer, it serves hot foods like hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, chicken tenders, and grilled cheese sandwiches. Camp supplies are also available in the concession stand building.
The concession stand is open typically from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, though hours may vary. It’s located close to the beach, along a paved walking path.
The park is popular for picnicking, as many tables are available with a view of the lake. You can bring your own food or purchase from the concession stand.
Boat rentals are also available during the summer season. They feature paddle boats, stand up paddle boards, kayaks, and more.
Buchanan State Forest surrounds Cowans Gap State Park, providing even more opportunities for outdoor adventures.
