Delaware is home to many family-friendly destinations, especially along the seashore. Check out this list of fun places to visit in Delaware, along with a couple just north of the Delaware border in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Air Mobility Command Museum
Air Mobility Command Museum is located at 1301 Heritage Rd, Dover Air Force Base, Delaware. The facility is a military aviation museum featuring over 30 aircrafts of various sizes. This museum has many opportunities to learn about the past and the future of military planes.
Planes are located inside and outside of the massive building. There is also a control tower. Visitors are allowed to go up in this tower and see all the planes landing nearby or see the land out in front of them. In this control tower you can see all the controls that Air Traffic Controllers work with.
Admission and parking at Air Mobility Command Museum is free.
Cape Henlopen State Park
Cape Henlopen State Park state park is located at 15099 Cape Henlopen Drive, Lewes, Delaware. At this state park they offer many different activities.
There’s a hiking trail that you can either hike or bike with beautiful scenery, or a nature center with a touch tank where you could touch and learn about all different types of animals. They also have a beautiful overlook of where the Delaware Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean.
One of the highlights of the state park is the beach! You can swim, boat, fish, kayak, and more at the beach. Also, there is a historical site. You can take tours of these once World War II sites. You can also climb to the top of an Observation Tower and learn how these towers helped at Fort Miles.
Longwood Gardens
Longwood Gardens is located at 1001 Longwood Road, Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. This beautiful attraction is just north of the Delaware border.
The gardens are very large, spanning over 1,100 acres. There are many different types of flowers and various large, and gorgeous fountains. The scenery in this garden is beautiful and there is a lot of greenery all around.
This garden has a lot of different events that happen year around. These performances can range from musical performances to firework and fountain performances. Longwood Gardens also offers tours of the garden and workshops.
Diggerland USA and The Water Main Waterpark
Diggerland USA is located at 100 Pinedge Drive, West Berlin, New Jersey. This attraction is also outside of Delaware, but it’s just across the border in southern New Jersey.
Diggerland is a construction themed theme park. With lots of rides and attractions, Diggerland is a great theme park for kids interested in construction. Diggerland also has a rope course and even rides where you can drive construction equipment. Visiting is best once your child is over 36 inches tall, so they are able to participate in the rides.
The Water Main is a seasonal waterpark that is part of Diggerland USA, and open during the summer months. The Water Main has many water construction themed pools and slides. There are some big slides for older kids and little kid slides. There is also a wave pool and many other attractions. Overall, Diggerland and The Water Main is very fun for all ages.
Philadelphia
Philadelphia is a major city in Pennsylvania, again, just north of the Delaware border. Philadelphia is filled with historic museums, restaurants, gardens (Longwood Gardens is also in Philly), parks, and even an aquarium across the river in New Jersey called Adventure Aquarium. Philadelphia is very historically famous with sites like Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, and more. There are tons of options for day trips in Philadelphia.

Rehoboth Beach
Rehoboth Beach is located in Delaware. Along the beach is a boardwalk, with shops, restaurants, hotels, and more. It is a beautiful beach with lots of entertaining things to do. Rehoboth Beach also has a museum focusing on the town’s history.
Overall, Rehoboth beach has lots of things to do in the spring, summer, fall, and in winter for families.
Winterthur
Winterthur is located at 5105 Kennett Pike, Wilmington, Delaware. Winterthur is a museum, garden, and library. They have an award-winning children’s garden with places for children to run, play, and have tons of fun.
Winterthur’s gardens are beautiful, and they have lots of unique structures. Winterthur has 1,000 acres of meadows and woodlands to explore. They also have 25 miles of hiking trails and lush gardens to enjoy.
Sesame Place
Sesame Place is located a 100 Sesame Rd, Langhorne, Pennsylvania. Sesame Place is a Sesame Street theme park for kids. It has water rides, dry rides, and a lot of fun stuff to do with kids. At Sesame Place not only do they have rides they also have shows with the characters.
They have a lot of restaurants, stores, and photo opportunities. Sometimes they even have parades. There is a wide variety of ride with flat rides, rollercoasters, and water rides, for all different ages. Overall Sesame place is a very fun theme park for little kids.
